THE TOURNAMENT
The tournament will take place on November 21th and 22th in Centro Multiuso, São José/SC - Brazil.

THIS IS AN OPEN EVENT. ALL ATHLETES OF ANY CITIZENSHIP ARE WELCOME TO COMPETE. TRIALS NOT REQUIRED.
The athletes must be at the warm up area, according to their fighting schedulle.
The athlete only can enter in the fighing area when is called by the official.
In case of victory the athlete must return to the warm up area, and remain there till the next fight.
No coaching is alowed in the fighting area.

Corrections by e-mail:
The athletes can send one e-mail with changes on the registration, by sending a email to ibjjf@ibjjf.org [5] with the subject 'SOUTH AMERICAN CORRECTION'. The deadline is November 19.
Registration Check day:
The athletes must make sure that their information is correct by checking the website on the registration list for their weight, belt, academy, age division, and name information. If there are any mistakes on the information (ei. typing mistakes by IBJJF) please send an email to ibjjf@ibjjf.org [5]. (deadline November 19) .

Junior 16/17 year-olds
- Only bluebelts
- Men only
- 16 and 17 year-olds will compete in the same division
- Athletes born on 1992 and 1993 are eligible to compete
- Fight time: 5 minutes
- There is no open class.
Adults
- The division is open for everyone, but athletes of other age divisions willing to compete here will not be allowed to fight in their own division (athletes can only enroll in one age division)

Masters (30-35)
- Athletes born between 1974 and 1979

- There will be six weight divisions (check weight list)
- Brown and blackbelts will compete in the same division

SOUTH AMERICAN JIU-JITSU NOVICE CHAMPIONSHIP 2009
On This event the points will be tallied separately from the main tournament. The points breakdown is as follows: First place- 9 points, Second place- 3 points, and Third place - 1 point. The event is for white belts only, MALE: ADULT and FEMALE: ADULT, and is intended to give budding competitors experience in the largest World tournament alongside many of the great athletes in sport jiu-jitsu.
- Fight time: 5 minutes
- There is no open class.
WEIGH INS
Before his/her first fight, the athlete will check his/her weight with the Gi. There is only one opportunity to check the weight. If the competitor does not make his/her weight,they will be immediately disqualified. Please make sure that you are in the correct weight division. You can not change divisions ,if you do not make your designated division. No changes will be accepted in the tournament day, no refund.
All athletes should fight and weigh-in with tradicional weave fabric gi only (single, double or golden). All blue, all white or all black. No other kind of gi is allowed.
OTHER INFO
Each academy can only have two athletes in the same division (of age/weight/belt). If your academy has problems regarding the number of athletes in each division, please send an e-mail to IBJJF ibjjf@ibjjf.org [5].
Before each fight, athletes will be asked to show their Ids to the officials. Make sure you have it at hand.
Depending on the number of athletes in the tournament, some classes may not have an absolute division.
