HDNet Fights - Reckless Abandon (December 15, 2007)
Jason Miller vs. Tim Kennedy (Middleweight Bout)
-Jason 'MayheM' Miller is one of the most popular fighters in MMA due in part to his masterful art of self-promotion, his time spent fighting in Hawaii, his eccentric personality, and his world-class ground skills. His worldwide following known as 'MayheM's MonkeY's' will undoubtedly be out in full force tomorrow night as MayheM looks to avenge one of the very few losses on his professional record. Tim Kennedy fights out of Chuck Liddell's Pit in San Luis Obispo, CA and holds a 2003 decision victory over MayheM and only one loss on a record with 8 wins. Most recently, Kennedy has established himself as a force in the IFL, after briefly leaving the sport for 3 years (2003-2006). This is because Kennedy is an Army Ranger (who earned a bronze star for his service in Iraq) and has been splitting his time between being a full-time fighter and a full-time soldier.
Prediction: Jason Miller via submission (Round 3).
Frank Trigg vs. Edwin Dewees (Middleweight Bout)
-Frank 'Twinkle Toes' Trigg is a powerful MMA veteran, who has fought in the UFC, Pride, and WFA, as well as holding the Icon Sport title earlier this year. Currently, Trigg's one of the Top 10 middleweights in the world with notable victories over Mayhem, Kazuo Misaki, Fabiano Iha, Charuto, and two wins over Dennis Hallman. He is coming off a devastating KO loss to Robbie Lawler and will look to re-establish himself against TUF 4 veteran Edwin 'Bam Bam' Dewees. At only 25-yeaqrs-old, DeWees is a veteran of over 40 MMA fights, having fought mostly in the UFC, KOTC, and RITC. Of his 34 wins, 27 have come by way of submission, so expect Dewees to utilize his jiu-jitsu skills in this match tomorrow night.
Prediction: Frank Trigg via TKO (Round 2).
Yves Edwards vs. Alonzo Martinez (Lightweight Bout)
-Yves Edwards is a Texas native that got back to his winning ways in November at the EliteXC, after having made a name for himself as a lightweight contender in the UFC, Bodog, and Pride. He takes on Alonzo Martinez who has nearly 30 fights to his name, while fighting mainly in smaller shows throughout the Midwest. Martinez's most notable wins came in a VFC 3-fight rivalry with UFC veteran Luke Caudillo, where Martinez took 2 out of 3 wins in the trilogy.
Prediction: Yves Edwards via submission (Round 1).
Pete Spratt vs. Tristan Yunker (Welterweight Bout)
-Pete Spratt was a fellow castmember of TUF 4 with Dewees and possesses great Muay Thai skills, which enabled him to dislocate Robbie Lawler's hip in a UFC fight. Texas native Spratt, takes on a young midwestern wrestling-based fighter in Tristan Yunker, who has wins over UFC contender Clay Guida, UFC veteran John Halverson, and the host of 'The Human Weapon' show, Jason Chambers.
Prediction: Pete Spratt via TKO (Round 1).
Freddie Espiricueta vs. Nissen Osterneck (Middleweight Bout)
-Freddie Espiricueta has fought in Dallas in his last two fights. He lost via submission to UFC veteran David Loiseau in May's Art of War and won a decision over Jason House at the first ever HDNet Fights in October. Hawaii native Nissen Osterneck has a flawless 4-0 MMA record having finished all 4 of his opponents (3 submissions, 1 TKO).
Prediction: Nissen Osterneck via submission (Round 2).
Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Robert Villegas (Light-Heavyweight Bout)
-Krzysztof Soszynski is an experienced MMA veteran from Canada, who has made a name for himself fighting in the IFL. He takes on a submission specialist in Robert Villegas, who will have the home state crowd behind him, as he fights out of Corpus Christi, Texas. Villegas has an impressive 7-1 MMA record with all 7 via submission and his lone loss via DQ.
Predicition: Krzysztof Soszynski via decision.
Chris Bowles vs. Corey Mahon (Lightweight Bout)
-Chris Bowles fights out of HDNet Fights president Guy Mezger's Lion's Den in the hometown of Dallas, Texas. He won in the first HDNet Fights and takes his 7-1 MMA record to the cage tomorrow night against Corey Mahon. Mahon has a flawless 7-0 MMA record, while fighting almost exclusively in Indiana's Legends of Fighting organization.
Prediction: Chris Bowles via submission (Round 2).
Patrick Castillo vs. Jay White (Heavyweight Bout)
-Patrick Castillo has only 4 fights to his credit with a 3-1 record. However, one of those wins came against the tough Miletich trained UFC veteran Sherman Pendergarst. He takes on the much larger Team Quest fighter in Jay White. White's 1-5 record may raise a few eyebrows at first glance, but four of those losses came against top cpompetition. Two of his losses came to Jeff Monson, one to Christian Wellisch, and one to Jake O'Brien.
Predicition: Jay White via decision.
Jason House vs. Liam McCarty (Middleweight Bout)
5 Rounds x 3 Minutes Each
-Jason House is a local Dallas jiu-jitsu fighter with a record of 7-4. He dropped a decision in the first HDNet Fights in October and will look to redeem himself in the second HDNet Fights tomorrow night against a fellow Dallas-Fort Worth native in Liam McCarty. McCarty was victorious in the first HDNet Fights show and holds a win over EliteXC veteran Seth Kleinbeck. He will look to continue his winning ways tomorrow night.
Predicition: Liam McCarty via TKO (Round 3).
Lee King vs. Marcus Lanier (Welterweight Bout)
5 Rounds x 3 Minutes Each
-Lee King trains 'thug-jitsu' with Yves Edwards and is a native of Houston, Texas. He sports a less than impressive 7-11-1 MMA record, but should benefit from training with Edwards and fighting in his home state. Marcus Lanier has a 5-2 record and will look to get back to his winning ways, after dropping his last match in Oklahoma in September.
Prediction: Marcus Lanier via TKO (Round 1).
