Matt Brown Injured; Out of UFC Fight Night 78 Main Event

Josh Koscheck returns

Matt Brown was looking to get back into contention with a win over Kelvin Gastelum, but an injury has forced him out off the bout. He had recently rebounded from a two fight losing streak which broke his career high seven fight winning streak. His losses did come to current Welterweight champion Robbie Lawler and former champion Johny Hendricks which shows how high level he is, but now being out due to injury it will be a while before he can prove himself a threat to the title again. Still, his original opponent Gastelum is left without an opponent for his return to 170.

Kelvin Gastelum won his season of TUF by taking out the overhyped Uriah Hall at Middleweight. He promptly moved to 170 where he started to show promise as a future title contender. Unfortunately, putting  record of 4-1 in did little to let him stay at 170 since he missed weight twice and one time was by ten pounds. He was forced up to 185 where he took out former title contender Nate Marquardt by TKO. He convinced he promotion to allow him to drop back down a weight class, and a fight with the fifth ranked fighter was a big fight to come back to. Luckily, the most reliable fighter outside of Donald Cerrone in Neil Magny.

Since joining the UFC in 2013, Magny has fought a total of 12 times. That includes five times in 2014 and now he will be going for his fifth fight in 2015. Magny was on a seven fight win streak and was given a matchup with UFC stalwart Demain Maia. That was an unfortunate loss for Magny, but he took a fight on 22 days notice to take on Brazilian bomber Erick Silva who he took a decision over. He was next matched up with Stephen Thomson in the new year, but that was not soon enough as he now takes a 17 day short notice fight against the aforementioned Gastelum. Whoever wins this fight may have the chance to crack the top five. Who do you think comes out on top?
