    Sun, 2009-06-21 07:52 — FightWorks

Last month when the cohost of The FightWorks Podcast Dan was invited by the Art of War to cover their mixed martial arts event, we knew he would come home with great interviews from the jiu-jitsu world but we did not know how good! This week’s show will feature a sampling of some of the conversations he was able to capture while in Beijing, China. All three interviewees this week are pioneers in spreading Brazilian jiu-jitsu to different parts of the world. First off is the legendary Rickson Gracie.

    Rio State Championships 2003

    Sun, 2004-09-05 21:27 — Scotty

The state championships ( Campeonato Estadual de JiuJitsu) are always one of my favorite events it comes up about a month before the Worlds. This tournament is often used by top guys making come backs and new up and comers sharpening their swords. This year was no exception. We saw some hot action at this event. Nothing like watching the hot shots plow through a division submitting guys. We saw the return of Rafael "Gordinho" Correa, Gordo`s little brother. This was one event he had not won ever so he jumped in to fight.

Copa do Brasil Teams Championships 2003

    Sun, 2004-09-05 09:49 — Scotty

This was one of the best events I have ever been to in Jiu Jitsu. The excitement of all the matches was awesome.

Seven thousand Reals $R7000 brought out some hungry tough fighters. The organization seemed up to par with all Brazilian events it was a big event and there was a lot of hype around it, especially for the possible rematch of Margarida vs Jacare. Unfortunately Margarida did not fight.

    Campeonato Brasiliero de Equipes 2002

There are two competing organizations in Brazil now based out of Rio that are running tournaments CBJJ & FBJJO. One is the old school confederation run by Carlos Gracie Jr of Gracie Barra and the other is run by Luiz from KF Fighter Kimons and Andre Pedanaras of Nova Uniao. This event is the Brazilian Team Championship run by the FBJJO. It showcases fights from the top guys from Alliance, Brazilian Top Team, and of course Nova Uniao. This tape shows what the other haft is up too.

The 6th annual Pan-American Championship, held in the United States since 1995, this event is the first steps towards the internationalization of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a sport.
The first event was held in Hawaii and a small group of almost 250 athletes took part in the pioneering and historical enterprise.  The tournament has been growing and has achieved recognition as the biggest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition in North America and as one of the most important events in the World.
