UFC on Fox Killer Card Rumors

    Tue, 2013-09-17 21:35 — Benjamin Bieker

The UFC has continued to contest titles on their Fox cards, and UFC on Fox 9 will be no different. This will be the third time in five cards that the Lightweight title will be contested on free TV as well. The problem is that it will not be TJ Grant fighting for the title like most people assumed. Instead, former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson sill be fighting in the main event against newly minted Anthony Pettis. Thomson may only be 1-1 in his last two fights, but his scintillating knockout of Nate Diaz and Grant's injury moved him into the main event.

    BJ Penn Plans Comeback

    Thu, 2013-09-12 19:01 — Benjamin Bieker

Many people thought that BJ Penn would retire from the sport after the two vicious beating laid on him at the hands of Nick Diaz and Rory MacDonald. Unfortunately, it looks like those fights just primed BJ for another supposed run at the top. In the unlikeliest of events Penn now finds himself a contender in a new division he has never even fought at before. Luckily he is going down in weight instead of up in weight this time.

Bantamweight Title TBA Until Early 2014

    Tue, 2013-09-10 18:40 — Benjamin Bieker

Bantamweight title holder Dominick Cruz will have not fought in two years come this October. Since July of 2012, Renan Barao has held the interim title, and he has defended it once over Michael MacDonald. He will defend it once again against Eddie Wineland which if he comes out with the win will tie him with Cruz for total defenses. This puts the promotion in a weird place where the champion has not been healthy to come back, but the interim champion is most likely tired of having the title of interim before champion. What is the UFC to do?

Brazilians on the Rise after UFC Fight Night 28

    Thu, 2013-09-05 18:32 — Benjamin Bieker

It is official, Glover Teixeira is the new number on contender for the light-heavyweight title. Of course, that position did not come without a scare, and that scare came out of the unlikeliest of places, Ryan Bader's hands. Bader was able to connect with Teixeira's chin, and he had the Brazilian nearly on the ropes and out of the fight. That is when one of the greatest comebacks happened with Teixeira stepping forward and landed two clean shots that effectively ended the fight.

The Power of BJJ at UFC 164

    Tue, 2013-09-03 09:51 — Benjamin Bieker

The power of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was on display at UFC 164 even though there was only two submissions on the whole card. Ironically, they came in the first and last fights of the night. In the first fight of the night, Magnus Cebenblad too out Jared Hamman in under a minute with a guillotine choke. It was the first submission loss of Hamman's career, and it was the fastest that he had been finished. For Cebenblad, it was his first win in the Octagon all with the power of BJJ.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Looks to become Light weight Number One Contender

    Tue, 2013-08-27 09:15 — Benjamin Bieker

Rafael dos Anjos is a BJJ black belt, but more recently has been known as a contender in the lightweight division of the UFC. His name had not always been thrown around like that, because after losing his first two fights in the Octagon some people doubted his ability. Now, he sits at a streak of 8-2 with his only losses being questionable. He was beating Clay Guida until a broken jaw forced him out of the fight, and then a split decision loss to Gleison Tibau was viewed by many as the wrong decision.

    Lyoto Machida Moves to Middleweight

    Thu, 2013-08-22 19:51 — Benjamin Bieker

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida has decided to move down to 185. At the age of 35, the Brazilian born fighter has had mixed results in the last few years. Since 2010, he has gone 3-4 after starting his career at a perfect 16-0. Two of those loss came in title fights where he was knocked out by Mauricio Rua and choked unconscious by Jon Jones. He looked to be back on his way to another title shot after wins over Ryan Bader and Dan Henderson, but a split decision loss to Phil Davis left him back at the drawing board.

    Vitor Belfort Finally gets Opponent

    Tue, 2013-08-20 22:40 — Benjamin Bieker

Vitor Belfort has called out and turned down every fighter from Chael Sonnen to Tim Kennedy. He has also stated that he prefers a fight at light-heavyweight while he waits for the outcome of the upcoming title shot rematch between Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva. Now, he may have a chance to do that, because the UFC has offered him a headlining slot opposite Dan Henderson for a bout in November. The fight would take place in Brazil at a yet to be determined arena, and would serve as Ultimate Fight Night 31.
