About Me:
Professor Leonardo "The Wizard" Pinheiro Xavier was born January 3, 1976, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At the age of 5, Leo ventured into his first martial art, taking judo in school. At the age of 13 Leo began to take Tae Kwon Do classes. Finally, a friend introduced him to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Leo immediately became good friends with his coach, Saulo Ribeiro. Under Saulo’s watchful eye, Leo began to successfully compete in local and regional tournaments in Brazil and, while he was still a blue belt, Leo began to help his coach with classes. Leo trained during this time at the legendary birthplace of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Gracie Humaitá gym in Rio. In 1999, Leo realized his dream of being promoted to black belt from the hands of his coaches Saulo Ribeiro and Master Royler Gracie. He is one of an elite group who have had the privilege of teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Gracie Humaitá.
In May, 2008, Professor Xavier was promoted by Royler Gracie to the rank of third degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Leo’s constant efforts to promote, develop and expand the art of traditional Gracie-style Brazilian Jiu-jitsu have helped his association to experience a significant amount of growth and success. The LXBJJ association now has affiliate schools spread all over the country and also in his native Brazil. The LX family can be found in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, West Virginia, New York, Brazil and many other places. All LX Academies are staffed with like-minded and equally passionate individuals that share Leo’s vision and commitment to producing high quality champions in the sport to which he has dedicated his life. This success is evidenced by the large number of champions Leo’s schools have produced. LXBJJ members routinely place for medals in all levels of competition.
Leo continues to teach and expand his association, sharing his goals and visions with his ever growing roster of students. He anxiously awaits the day in which he will promote his first generation of Black Belts from the USA so that they can share in spreading his love and knowledge of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
