UFC on Fox 16 Predictions: Main Event
TJ Dillashaw vs. Renan Barao
How can this fight go any different? Given that the fight was made on short notice, but the truth is that Dillashaw beat Barao from piller to post for a few rounds until he finished him. Given Barao could connect with a power punch, or catch a submission on the ground but it is unlikely. Look for Dillashaw to win this fight with a TKO in the third.
UFC on Fox 16 Predictions: Co-Main Event
Miesha Tate vs. Jessica Eye
How Eye finds herself in a number one contenders bout is a bit unbelievable considering she has technically only won one fight in the UFC, but it falls more to Tate who has been on quite a run but at the same time already has two losses to Rousey. Eye is going to be outmatched anyway with herself being a smaller fighter and Tate being a grinder. She took down Sara McMann who is an Olympic level wrestler she should have no problem taking down Eye whose weakness falls on the ground. Look for Tate to grind out a decision victory.
UFC on Fox 16 Predictions: Undercard
Edson Barboza vs. Paul Felder
Felder ha snever lost but he has never faced a fighter like Barboza as well. Felder mostly relies on his striking with seven out of ten win coming by knockout. The issue is that Barboza is a better striker and has a five inch reach advantage that will carry him to a TKO victory late in the third.
Joe Lauzon vs. Takanori Gomi
Neither of these fighters are as good as they used to be, but Lauzon has enough in the tank to put this fight where it needs to be. Gomi will make it interesting, but Lauzon will eventually captures the submission victory. With over half of Gomi’s losses coming by way of submission, he will get caught by Lauzon in the second round.
Gian Villante vs. Tom Lawler
Lawler is fighting up a weight class for the first time in two years. That means that he will now have tough task in the very tough Villante. It is very unlikely that he will have a successful return to the UFC as Villante will win by TKO in the second.
Jim Miller vs. Danny Castillo
Castillo has some decent wins but is always going to be beat by people that can push his cardio. Miller’s best days may be behind him, but he can still push harder and longer than Castillo. That will carry him to a third round submission win.
Kenny Robertson vs. Ben Saunders
Saunders is a tough fighter but usually gets stymied by good wrestlers. Robertson is the perfect matchup to expose those flaws in Saunders’ game. Unfortunately with a five foot height advantage Sanders can use his improved defensive wrestling to keep the fight standing and win the fight by decision over three rounds.
Eddie Wineland vs. Bryan Caraway
Wineland has had his ups and downs but the issue is that he does not have the best ground game. Plus, after coming back from a knockout loss and broken jaw he may not be the same fighter. Almost half of Wineland’s losses come by submission while 17 of Caraway’s 19 wins come by way of submission. That pretty much spells out how this will end in the second round.
