UFC Fight for the Troops Predictions

    Thu, 2013-10-31 19:11 — Benjamin Bieker

     Tim Kennedy vs. Rafael Natal

Kennedy has faced the better competition, but that does not make him the better fighter in this fight. Natal has lost twice in his UFC career, but event he fight against Andrew Craig was a loss due to slip up as he was single handily winning that fight before the head kick. The real question mark is Natal's cardio, because he has never gone past the first three rounds while Kennedy has had some five round fights. Look for Natal to break through into the top ten with this win in a unanimous decision.

Two Title Fights Headline UFC's Super Bowl Weekend

    Tue, 2013-10-29 19:25 — Benjamin Bieker

Super Bowl weekend is set to be a big weekend for the UFC despite them leaving the comfort of Las Vegas in years. The card is set to take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, and was already announced to have a heavyweight battle between floundering bruisers Frank Mir and Alistair Overeem. The promotion wanted to have Jon Jones to headline the card opposite of Glover Teixeira, but Jones wanted a little bit more time to recovery after the exhausting battle he had with Alexander Gustafsson.

Dan Faggella's specialty is beating bigger, stronger opponents. At 128 pounds, and training practically in the middle of nowhere - and with white belts - he was able to not only win some IMPRESSIVE absolute division matches and trophies at the expert level… but also win the No Gi Pan Ams on his 2nd day of being a brown belt. He won my calls submissions without a point scored against him.

Nathan Mendelsohn's American BJJ Player Blog: Back to the States in time to Take Gold at the US Open!

    Hey guys!
A few weeks ago I returned to the states with a fresh injury over my eye to remember my trip by. The doctor said a whole month without training for risk of re-opening the gash and with the US Open right around the corner I was forced to try to stay in shape without any jiu-jitsu training. I did not want to miss the event since it promised to be an awesome one this year and thus I went about doing my best to prepare without doing any jiu-jitsu sparring. Instead I did lots of Crossfit, drilling and circuit training. When going to compete a jiu-jitsu event there is no replacement for jiu-jitsu training but even without a single sparring session in a month I still went into the event confident in my skills and was able to come out with the gold in my division against a tough opponent in Romulo Melo (video above). Even in winning I didn't feel my game was that sharp nor did I feel as physically prepared as I usually am but I still decided to go for the Absolute division as well and came up against another tough opponent in Julian Marquez, a match that didn't end up going the way I wanted it to partially because of a mistake I made which created an opportunity for Julian that he took with everything he had. The loss in the open put a bit of a damper on my win in my division but I'm still glad I took part in this awesome event. Now I'm going to get back to training jiu-jitsu while still putting a heavy focus on physical training and weightlifting between now and the end of the year so that I can hit the ground running next year, stronger than ever! May also make an appearance at another tournament or two before the holidays if possible as well :)

ADCC Review Part 1 & Cyborg Video Interview

If a picture is worth a thousand words, this video by Stuart Cooper is about a million.  Make sure you watch the video.

Having got to the event late my whole day was off to a crazy start.  I got there and Erin Herle was already there working like a mad woman.  Someone give that girl a raise. She was nice enough to catch me up on what I had missed.

The Road To ADCC 2013, not fully paved.

    Wed, 2013-10-23 08:06 — Scotty

When I first heard that ADCC was going to be in China, I was a bit puzzled as to why they picked China? Seemed like an odd place. SoCal being the mecca of BJJ I hoped it would be back in LA.

Once I got to China it made a bit more sense turns out UFC is making a big push here and TUF has a full Chinese version coming with Cung Lee hosting.

I didn't have a bad trip getting here. Usual flight and stuff. But once I got to China the problems started in right away.
