UFC 119 Predictions

    Fri, 2010-09-24 08:44 — acarson

Shaping up to be one of the more mediocre cards of the year UFC 119 takes place on Saturday, September 25th at the Canseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis Indiana. Without a title or any interesting sub-plots I look forward to getting a little more clarity in the light heavyweight division standings.

    Here are my picks:

Joey Beltran vs. Matt Mitrione = Mitrione by TKO
C.B. Dollaway vs. Joe Doerksen = Dollaway by decision
Melvin Guillard vs. Jeremy Stevens = Guillard by KO
Evan Dunham vs. Sean Sherk = Dunham by decision
Chris Lytle vs. Matt Serra = Serra via Submission
Ryan Bader vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira = Bader by decision
Mirko Filipovic vs. Frank Mir = Mir via Submission

only thing I don't agree with

only thing I don't agree with is :
Ryan Bader vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira = Bader by decision
I see Bader by knockout.  Decision is a maybe since it looks like he has better takedowns then Lil Nog and will probably rack up points that way

    ughhh, what?

Chris Lytle has never been submitted in 52 career fights (17 that happened in the UFC) and Matt Serra has only submitted one person in the UFC, Kelly Dullanty, over the course of 11 total fights for the promotion. It should also be noted that his win over Dullanty happened 8 1/2 years ago. Dullanty then went into retirement for over 6 years after that fight, only to lose again, and retire again.

Did you even watch the first fight between Lytle and Serra? Many people believe that Split Decision could have very easily gone either way at the TUF 4 Finale.

Instead of dismissing this event as "one of the more mediocre cards of the year", why don't you read up on the event first. Here's 5 reasons, I'll be watching.

    1. The rematch between Serra and Lytle has been something many have been waiting for and is taking place in Lytle's hometown of Indianapolis, which will heighten the crowd intensity of the fight.

    2. Ryan Bader vs. Little Nog has possible title implications and will be a good test for each coming off their last fights. This is a big step up in competition for Bader and Little Nog will be facing another high-level wrestler, after having problems with Jason Brilz in his last fight.

    3. Evan Dunham is one of the top contenders in the lightweight division and he's fighting the former lightweight champion Sean Sherk.

    4. Melvin Guillard vs. Jeremy Stephens has "barn burner" and "fight of the night" written all over it.

    5. You only listed 7 fights above. UFC 119 actually has 11 fights scheduled, including the UFC debuts of iron-chinned PRIDE and K-1 vet Mark Hunt and the massive (6'7", cuts to 265 lbs.) Sean McCorkle. Their debut fights for the UFC will be against each other in McCorkle's hometown.

    Overcat, I am familiar with

Overcat, I am familiar with the event so I won't be "reading up on it". But here is were you are wrong my friend....

    1. Lytle vs Serra would have been exciting years ago but both fighters are now past there prime.

    2. Bader vs lil Nog does not have "possible title implications" as you suggest, this fight will determine where the two fighters stand in the top 10 lightheavy's. After Bader wins maybe he'll get Forrest or Jones.

    3. "Little Nog will be facing another high-level wrestler". Since when is Jason Brilz a high level wrestler?

    4.  I agree that Guillard and Stephens will be a barnburner.

    5. I did not list the prelims on purpose, And come on seriously Mark Hunt???
    Like I said Mediocre!!!
